Abstract
Miscibility of polyglutarimide(PGI) (imidization PMMA) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) was investigated by DSC. FT-IR and optical polarizing microscope. The glass transition temperature in all blend composition was observed at near 145 ℃ and the equilibrium melting temperature of blend decreased slightly with increasing PGI content. The crystallinity of blends showed that it decreased according to 'rule of mixture' as PGI content increased. The crystallinity of PEO in the blend did not decrease drastically as PGI content increased but it decreased slightly (about 6.5%). Until the 40 wt% PGI contents, the crystallite band of PEO (948, 964, 1343, and 1359 cm(-1)) in the blends was detected clearly. But it was detected weakly in more than 60 wt% of PGI. The difference of spherulite growth rate for PEO in the PEO/PGI blends was not observed until the 60 wt% PGI content. From the optical polarizing microscope measurements. PEO spherulite in PEO/PGI blends was detected.

Polyglutarimide (PGI) (이미드화된 poly(methyl methacrylate))와 poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)의 블렌드를 DSC, FT-IR 및 편광현미경을 이용하여 상용성을 조사하였다. 블렌드의 전조성에서 PGI에 의한 Tg가 145℃ 부근에서 관측되었으며, 블렌드의 평형용융온도가 PGI함량이 증가할수록 약간 감소하였다. 블렌드의 결정화도는 PGI의 함량에 비례하여 'rule of mixture'에 준하는 형태를 보여주었으며 반면에 블렌드내 PEO의 결정화도는 PGI 함량에 따라 급격히 감소하는 현상을 발견할 수 없었고 약간의 결정화도 감소 (약 6.5%)만을 보여주었다. 블렌드내의 PEO결정 밴드 (948, 964, 1343, 1359cm-1)는 PGI 함량이 40wt%까지 증가하여도 변화가 없었으나 60wt% 이상에서는 PEO결정 밴드가 미약하게 관측되었다. PGI의 함량이 60wt%까지 증가하여도 구정성장속도는 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 편광현미경을 통해 PEO구정 형태를 PEO/PGI 블렌드 모두에서 볼 수 있었다.
