Abstract
Aqueous cationic polyurethane emulsion was prepared by the condensation of methylol groups which were formed by methylolation of bis-biuret end-group of polyurethane prepolymer containing N ionic group with formaldehyde. The effect of concentration of ionic groups (represented by the weight percentage of N-methyldiethanolamine) and the concentration of methylol group(represented by the formaldehyde to urea molar ratio) on the particle size of the emulsion and on the mechanical properties of the film were evaluated. The particle size ranging from 0.1㎛ to 0.5㎛ was found to decrease with the increase in the ion content or degree of methylolation. The ultimate tensile strenth and elongation at break were found to be influenced by the ion concentration and degree of methylolation. The effect of polyether structural groups in the polyurethane backbone on hydrolytic stability and mechanical properties was also studied.

N+ 이온기를 포함하는 폴리우레탄 프리폴리머의 bis-biuret 말단기를 메틸올화하고 이를 축합반응시켜 수성 양이온성 폴리우레탄 에멀젼을 제조하였다. N-methyldiethanolamine의 중량비로 표시한 이온기의 농도와 포름알데히드에 대한 요소의 몰비로 표시한 메틸올기의 농도간 에멀젼의 입자크기와 필름의 기계적 성질에 미치는 영향을 관찰하였다. 입자크기는 이온의 농도와 메틸올화도의 증가에 따라서 0.52㎛에서 0.l㎛로 감소하였으며, 인장강도와 신장율 또한 이온농도와 메틸올화도에 의해 영향을 받는 것으로 관찰되었다. 폴리우레탄 사슬내에 포함되는 에테르기의 함량이 가수분해에 대한 저항성과 기계적 성질에 미치는 영향 또한 검토하였다.
