Abstract
Epoxy resins were synthesized by the addition reaction of epichlorohydrin (ECH) to 3,3''-and 4,4''-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (DDS) in t : 1 ethanol/water mixture followed by the dehydrochlorination of the adducts with 50% -NaOH. The spectroscopic and liquid chromatograpic characterization of the abducts showed that 3,3''-DDS goes into the addition reaction more complete and contains less imino protons remaining unreacted than 4,4''- DDS. The higher content of the unreacled - NH- protons of the 4,4''-DDS/ECH abducts gave rise to higher molecular weight epoxy resins than 3,3''-DDS. These results are discussed in connection with the difference in molecular structure between 3,3''-DDS and 4,4''-DDS.

3,3''-및 4,4''-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (DDS)에 epichlorohydrin (ECH)를 에탄올/물 1/1 혼합물 중에서 부가시키고 이어 50%-NaOH로 탈염산시켜 DDS epoxy 수지를 합성하였다. DDS/ECH adduct와 DDS epoxy 수지를 분광학적 방법과 HPLC로 분석한 결과 3,3''-DDS에서는 ECH와의 부가반응이 4,4''-DDS보다 저 많이 진행되어 미반응 -NH-수소함량이 더 적었다. 미반응 -NH-수소를 더 많이 함유하는 4,4''-DDS/ECH adduct는 탈염산 반응시 이 -NH-수소가 oxirane기와 반응하여 epoxy 수지의 분자량을 높인다. 이 결과를 두 DDS 분자구조와 연관지어 토의하였다.
