Abstract
Poly-p-hydroxy benzoate, the first liquid crystalline po]yarylate, decomposes below the melting point, and is not able to be thermally processed. In this study, 2,6-dihydroxy naphthalene and terephthalic acid were copolymerized to poly-p-hydroxybenzoate to lower the melting point of the polymer. The polymerization was carried out with the different amount of comonomers, and the thermal properties were measured by DSC and TGA. The mechanical properties were also measured by UTM. As the amount of comonomer increased, glass transition and melting temperatures decreased and thermal decomposition temperature also decreased. Tensile strength and modulus increased and elongation decreased with the amount of comonomer.

액정 폴리에스테르 수지로서 처음 개발된 poly-p-hydroxybenzoate는 열분해 온도가 용융 온도보다 높기 때문에 열 성형이 불가능하다. 본 연구에서는 2,6-dihydroxy naphthalene과 terephthalic acid를 공중합 성분으로 사용하여 poly-p-hydroxybenzoate의 선형성을 저하시킴으로써 용융점을 저하시켰다. 공중합 성분의 양을 변화시키면서 중합한 후 DSC, TGA를 사용하여 열적 특성을 측정하였으며, 또한 UTM을 사용하여 기계적 특성을 측정하였다. 공중합 성분의 량이 증가할수록 유리전이 온도와 용융점은 감소되었고 열분해 온도도 감소하였다. 또한 공중합 성분이 많을수록 인장 강도와 탄성률은 증가하였고 인장 신도는 감소하였다.
