Abstract
Introducing the permanganate chemical etching procedure, a new spherulite investigation method of scanning electron microscope(SEM) is developed for the observation of isotactic polypropylene(iPP). New chemical etching conditions for iPP spherulite are as follows; etchant formulation is 3 wt% KMnO4(s)/64.7 wt% H2SO4/32.3 wt% H3PO4 and etching time is 7 hours at room temperature. The spherulite morphology of iPP can be observed clearly by an SEM α-Spherulite and β-spherulite can be characterized and classified by the morphology contrast and lamellar growth pattern which are revealed after permanganate etching.

화학적 에칭법을 도입하여 isotactic polypropylene (iPP) 구정관찰에 적합한 주사전자현미경(SEM:scanning electron microscope)용 시편준비법을 개발하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 iPP 구정관찰에 적합한 에칭조건은 3wt% KMnO4(s)/64.7wt% H2SO4/32.3wt% H3PO4 etchant 조성과 에칭시간 7시간에서 최적의 모폴로지를 주고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구의 과망간산 에칭법을 이용하여 나타난 모폴로지의 명암과 라멜라 성장 pattern으로 α-구정, β-구정의 형태를 구별할 수 있었으며, 화학적 에칭법을 적용하여 iPP 구정의 다양한 모폴로지와 미세구조를 재연성있게 관찰할 수 있었다.
