Abstract
Polycondensations were carried out between hydroxy-terminated polyarylate oligomers. having number average molecular weight of 3,800, 5,000, 7,500, 9,600, 12,100,3 and 4,4''-azobiscyanopentanoyl chloride to prepare the macroazoinitiator. At the polymerization of styrene, thermally initiated by macroazoinitiator, the rate of polymerization, i.e., the total monomer consumption for 24 hrs. was proportional to the initial styrene monomer concentration and to the square root of the initial azo concentration, while the chain length of polystyrene block was proportional to the initial styrene monomer concentration and inversely proportional to the square root of the initial azo concentration.

히드록시 말단의 폴리아릴레이트 올리고머와 4,4''-azobiscyanopentanoyl chloride를 반응시켜 macroazoinitiator를 합성하였으며, 이를 이용하여 폴리아릴레이트-폴리스티렌 블록 공중합체를 합성하였다. 이 경우 스티렌의 중합 속도는 스티렌 단량체 농도에 비례하고 아조기 농도의 제곱근에 비례하였으며, 생성된 폴리스티렌의 중합도는 스티렌 단량체 농도에 비례하고, 아조기 농도의 제곱근에 반비례 하였다.
