This review presents an integrated design strategy for composite solid electrolytes, composite cathodes, and polymer-binder-enabled dry-film processing in sulfide- and oxide-based all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs), redefining the role of polymer binders from passive adhesives to active, multifunctional components within these composite architectures. We systematically examine how advanced binders govern ion-conduction pathways, interfacial chemistry, mechanical buffering, and manufacturing processability across composite electrolytes and composite cathodes, thereby mitigating their inherent interfacial and processing constraints. Specifically, we highlight the necessity of low-reactivity, ion-conducting binders to address solvent/moisture sensitivity and high-voltage degradation in sulfide-based composite electrolytes, whereas anchoring-functional binders are emphasized for oxide-based composite electrolytes to enable sinter-free ceramic-electrode integration. Furthermore, we critically assess polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-based dry-film processes for fabricating free-standing composite cathodes and electrolyte membranes. Although PTFE is advantageous for fibrillation and mechanical robustness, its intrinsically low ionic conductivity and limited low-potential stability, particularly at Li-metal anodes or sulfide-electrolyte/Li interfaces, necessitate further development toward Li+-conductive ionomers and functional polymer binders. By comprehensively evaluating composite solid electrolytes, composite cathodes, dry-film processing, and lithium-metal/silicon anode interfaces, we propose quantitative design specifications and outline future research trajectories for next-generation multifunctional binders in practical ASSBs.
